String Orchestra
ABOUT THE PIECE
Throughout history, the term aria has referred to both instrumental and vocal lyrical works. The string orchestra, capable of a multitude of musical textures and expressions, is especially well suited to such pieces.
Aria for Strings begins and ends with a melancholy lyrical melody that surrounds a more resolute and passionate middle section. Sighs echo throughout the piece, beautifully expressed in the descending sevenths played by each section in turn.
